Big Stone City is a city in Grant County, South Dakota, United States. It lies between the southern tip of Big Stone Lake and the northern bank of the Whetstone River, and is adjacent to the city of Ortonville, Minnesota. The population was 467 at the 2010 census.

There were 314 housing units at an average density of 261.7 per square mile (101.0/km). The racial makeup of the city was 97.9% White, 0.2% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 1.1% from other races, and 0.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
There were 236 households of which 17.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.5% were married couples living together, 5.9% had a female householder with no husband present, 3.4% had a male householder with no wife present, and 43.2% were non-families. 39.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.98 and the average family size was 2.60.
